12-01-15 Rocky Mountain Hardware takes bronze to a new level

Rocky Mountain Hardware manufactures a range of expertly crafted bronze hardware for the whole home. Insite worked with Tolleson to develop a responsive, mobile-first design for the Idaho-based company and migrated all content from Joomla CMS to Drupal.

Insite created custom integration with third-party product configurator software provided by Outward, Inc. Visitors can now set up user portfolios, which allows them to save and share RMH products—including those created with a new interactive tool for designing unique door hardware.

Insite continues to provide RMH with website development and consulting services.

10-06-15 Paid-membership website modernizes the way AgResource Company offers products

For over 20 years, AgResource Company (ARC) has been the world’s leading agricultural advisory and research firm, but the company was emailing PDF attachments to sell its products. Insite helped ARC conceive of a paid-membership model, with information products available on the website and mobile devices.

The responsive Wordpress theme is home to an e-commerce solution that offers different levels of membership with access to published research and advisories. This innovative solution—a world away from the company’s outdated, inefficient system—exceeded its expectations and led to a spinoff website for Agrbrasil.com, which supports ARC’s South American market.

3-01-15 See Jane Farm seeks to disrupt the world’s oldest industry

The team at See Jane Farm sees farming differently. Why feed just two people per acre when you could feed 700—without pesticides? It’s a bold idea that borrows from technology, science, and other industries to slash water use and shorten the distance that produce travels.

The website is equally bold and unexpected, opening on a red background with white text. The single “long-scroll” page design flows into full-width photos of spinach and kale, and the responsive Wordpress theme ensures the site is equally appealing on any device.

3-01-14 Clean, compelling website helps author Kristin Ohlson engage with her audience

New York Times best-selling author Kristin Ohlson is insatiably curious about the world. Her work explores science, food, art, travel—or anything else that captures her interest. In conjunction with her latest release, The Soil Will Save Us: How Scientists, Farmers, and Foodies Are Healing the Soil to Save the Planet, Insite created a smart visual identity to complement Kristin’s talents.

Starting with Kristin’s author photo by Kristin Beadle, and featuring a blog and integrated social media, the new website helps the author build relationships and create a stronger connection with her readers. The responsive design promotes Kristin’s books and reviews, articles, news, and upcoming talks and book signings.

12-20-13 Ogawa Fisher Architects’ image-filled website lets the work speak for itself

Insite redesigned the website for Ogawa Fisher Architects, a firm that designs residential spaces in San Francisco, California, and Portland, Oregon. Their practice focuses on personal design, inside and out. Featuring stunning photography, the website reflects OFA’s aesthetic: clean, simple spaces that transcend style.

Responsive for mobile, the website showcases outstanding projects and allows visitors to view projects by type (e.g., bath, kitchen, natural light). Featured projects offer in-depth details and image galleries that bring the work to life. A news blog covers a variety of topics: inspiration, collaborations, materials and more.

12-15-13 Velvetwire’s Powerslayer aims to save loads of electricity one device at a time

Powerslayer is the sleek, software-driven smart charger from Velvetwire that saves energy and promotes long-term battery performance for USB devices. Wired and SlashGear are among those praising the power-sipping charger that lets you keep mobile devices plugged in all day without wasting electricity.

Insite worked with Tolleson Design to create Velvetwire’s Drupal e-commerce website, whose responsive design is optimized for smartphones, tablets and desktop. Embedded video delivers a compelling product tour that walks viewers through the development of Powerslayer.

12-13-13 OVMA website goes mobile for veterinary professionals and the pet set

To better serve members and pet owners, Oregon Veterinary Medical Association’s website now features full functionality on smartphones. The responsive design from Insite Web Publishing offers easy, on-the-go access to dues payment, membership, classified ad purchasing, conference materials and finding a vet.

OVMA’s diverse membership—from mobile-savvy recent grads to seasoned veterinary professionals—can access information quickly with two-tiered navigation featuring a persistent website search field. The visually rewarding design is easy to see and navigate on small screens, while remaining consistent with OVMA’s established brand.

11-02-13 A little more action: Redesigned MyVegas offers online games with real-world rewards

MyVegas from PlayStudios lets you earn actual reward comps for Las Vegas hotels, shows, restaurants, shopping and more by playing free online games. Insite worked with Tolleson Design to create the new responsive website, which promotes the multi-platform myVegas suite of online games. Optimized for phone, tablets and desktop, the mobile and web games can be played on Facebook, IOS, Android, and Kindle mobile devices.

9-05-13 Responsive design gives Arlington Public Library a big experience on the small screen

Arlington Public Library received a grant from the Texas State Library to update and optimize its website for use on mobile devices. The responsive design from Insite Web Publishing leverages the current desktop design to present a full website experience for targeted mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets.

While some organizations create separate, mobile-only versions of their website—with reduced content and limited functionality—our approach to responsive design is to enable the full website experience, including all content and functionality. Insite examined and identified the library’s popular page design layouts and content types, and then studied various mobile responsive breakpoints. Next, we created dynamic, responsive layouts to accommodate the content.

One significant challenge was deciding on how best to implement large-scale information architecture and navigation that was just as intuitive on a small screen. In the end, Arlington Public Library’s responsive design website is an accessible and pleasant mobile experience that reflects the library’s brand.

9-01-13 New website offers an immersive experience for NanaWall’s operable glass walls

Insite Web Publishing worked with Tolleson Design, a creative agency based in San Francisco, to create a stunning new website for NanaWall. The California company pioneered the category of operable glass wall systems, used in homes, restaurants, hotels, auto showrooms and more.

The website showcases NanaWall’s beautiful products with awe-inspiring photography, videos, 3-D renderings, schematic downloads and thorough product documentation—and it’s an essential tool for manufacturers’ reps to promote and sell products. The comprehensive website will appeal to everyone from homeowners and business owners to designers and builders who are looking for a unique architectural feature.

With photography this good, it was crucial to heavily integrate with third-party tools for page sharing and social media, including Pinterest, HOUZZ, Facebook, Twitter and Google+. The website also works seamlessly with design wizards that walk architects and contractors through the process of selecting and configuring the Nanawall product that’s right for their project.

4-01-13 Insite gives fresh update to online interior design magazine

Insite Web Publishing worked with Wisconsin ad agency Bader Rutter to redesign Impact Magazine, the online publication from OfficeMax Workplace Interiors. What began as a print magazine several years ago is now a relevant online resource for architects and interior design professionals.

The award-winning Impact includes regular features such as Workstation Life and topical, in-depth interviews with the design professionals who create productive and stimulating workspaces. Part of the clean, fresh look is a tag cloud covering a variety of popular topics, such as productivity, collaboration, corporate culture, flexible workspace, LEED and office design.

Created on the Drupal 7 platform, the new online magazine format makes it easy to manage and update editorial content, and Mr. Irving provided content management training to staff contributors.

2-01-13 Insite is halfway home with launch of CGCC’s “third campus”

Columbia Gorge Community College recently unveiled its new home page—referred to by the college as its “third campus”—marking the halfway point of Insite Web Publishing’s two-year contract. The fresh, user-friendly design better represents CGCC by featuring the school’s people and programs and capturing the character of this stunning recreational area.

While CGCC is well known for its renewable energy programs, the new home page also highlights an array of often overlooked programs, including Art, Japanese, Theater and the Soccer Team. The Oregon Veterinary Medical Association’s conference attendees can now register for events online. Using the popular Drupal e-commerce platform Übercart, Insite developed an application that simplifies the process of registering and paying for OVMA events. The latest website enhancement builds on previous work that established online membership renewal. Along with event registration, the flexible e-commerce tool can generate reports and will also be able to process classified ad payments.

10-30-12 Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon streamlines efforts to end food insecurity

After creating a new brand identity for Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon, Insite has been working to enhance the organization’s website to help build a community to fight hunger in our state. Individuals can now easily Become a Partner to advocate for access to affordable, nutritious, culturally appropriate food. Plus, a new executive summary lays out three goals to guide the state’s collective efforts to end hunger before it starts.

Feast Portland, the city’s newest culinary festival, helped raise the profile of Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon by supporting the local nonprofit with ticket sales from the event.

9-24-12 Emergency network helps Oregon utilities share resources during a disaster

In an emergency, time is critical. The Oregon Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network (ORWARN), part of a nationwide effort launched after Hurricane Katrina, lets utilities join together to post equipment and teams that can be mobilized during an emergency, without requiring an official disaster declaration. Insite revamped ORWARN’s website with multiple search tools to make it easier for member utilities to find what they need and speed access to aid. The website also integrates YouTube and Twitter to boost communication among members.

8-11-12 New membership management system gives Oregon veterinary group room to grow

The Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA) has joined the long list of associations discovering the efficiency of using a customer relationship management system. Gone are the days of mailing checks and using paper forms. Now, members can join and renew online, and the Drupal-based system sets up OVMA for e-commerce down the road. In addition to membership, in the future OVMA plans to use the system created by Insite to handle event registration and classified ad payments.

7-03-12 Simple solution offers big efficiency for Arlington Public Library

Life just got a lot easier for library staff in Arlington, Texas. Insite Web Publishing developed a custom Drupal module that lets staff at the Arlington Public Library efficiently process items requested by Arlington Independent School District and Mansfield Independent School District.

Library staff are thrilled about the new feature, which streamlines the formerly tedious process of checking items in and out by hand. For school libraries, it’s a better way to expand their offerings to students, who can access Arlington Public Library’s e-books and learning materials online and have items sent directly to their school.

6-16-12 Helping libraries reach out: Paul Irving to teach graduate students the keys to a better online experience

Insite’s Paul Irving will hold a Q&A on the topic of usability issues in website design with graduate students at Emporia State University’s School of Library and Information Management (SLIM). Ellen Rosenblum launched her 2012 bid for attorney general of Oregon with a political campaign website from Insite Web Publishing that employs the latest, user-friendly features of Drupal 7. The powerful site lets Rosenblum communicate with supporters, accept donations and recruit volunteers.

Social media integrates seamlessly with plugins that deliver real-time feeds from her Facebook and Twitter accounts. Donors can contribute with a secure web form. Volunteers are able to sign up online and choose from a list of suggested activities. Behind the scenes, the performance enhancements of Drupal 7, including an improved calendar, make it easier than ever to create and manage content.

3-26-12 Gorge Literacy website at CGCC connects adults with free reading, writing services

Columbia Gorge Community College’s new Gorge Literacy website serves up a wealth of free literacy resources for people in the Columbia Gorge. With Insite’s redesign, it’s now easy for tutors to apply online and for teachers and social workers to help connect adults with the services they need to improve their reading and writing skills. Adult learners can submit their writings to be published in Shared Voices, an annual collection of poems, stories, songs and more.

The launch follows an update of CGCC’s Child Care Partners website, which helps parents find quality child care.

Insite has been awarded a two-year contract to provide website design, development, training and support services for Columbia Gorge Community College.

9-23-11 Kalamazoo Public Library website wins State History Award

The Historical Society of Michigan has awarded a 2011 State History Award to Kalamazoo Public Library, for the All About Kalamazoo History website. The award, in the Communications: Newsletters and Websites category, was awarded to KPL for its outstanding contributions to the appreciation and understanding of Michigan history.

Insite worked with KPL to design the award-winning website which features over 600 articles, researched and written by library staff and covering more than 20 local history topics, such as biographies, music, and houses & buildings. Many articles feature illustrations, historical photographs and sound recordings.

6-01-11 Oregon Summer Meals launches redesigned website

Insite worked with Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon and SAFENET to redesign and develop the Oregon Summer Meals website. The website helps kids and teens find free meals and activities during the summer and features an easy-to-use city search and an interactive map.

Oregon summer meal sites are located in neighborhoods that USDA considers high need areas. However, no application or proof of income is needed to participate, and all children are welcome.

This project is an update of the Project Summer website, developed by Insite in 2006 and is now using the open source content management system, Drupal.

5-19-11 Friends of the Multnomah County Library launches new website

Insite worked with Friends of the Multnomah County Library to produce their new website. Their goals are to provide up-to-date information to their membership and clear direction on how to help support the library through their work.

The website was developed using the open source content management system, Drupal. It features the Friends Store (soon select products can be purchased online), annual book sales upates, news and member book reveiws. The result is a dynamic and engaging website that relects their new visual identity and is meeting their goals.

5-06-11 Paul Irving joins PCC Web Advisory Committee

Insite Web Publishing President, Paul Irving, has joined the Portland Community College (PCC) Web Advisory Committee. The Committee is comprised of Web professionals from the Portland area. The purpose of the committee is to advise and consult with PCC faculty in the Computer Information Systems and Computer Applications departments. The committee provides feedback and ideas for new or proposed web-related classes, discusses skills, applications and concepts that should be taught to students, and answers questions from instructors in the Web Site Development and Design program.

Child Care Partners in The Dalles, OR has selected Insite Web Publishing to design and develop their website using Drupal. The website will provide information and services to parents, employers, and child care providers in Gilliam, Hood River, Sherman, Wasco and Wheeler counties in Oregon. Services will include a training calendar and intake forms for parents seeking referrals to child care providers and providers wishing to join the network.

Insite worked with MultiCare Dental to create a friendly, easy-to-use website. Initially offered in English and Spanish, the website will be translated into Russian, Somali and Vietnamese languages. The website was developed using the open source content management system, Drupal.

MultiCare Dental provides excellent dental care services at eight clinic locations throughout Multnomah and Clackamas Counties to Oregon Health Plan (OHP) members.

The Library Foundation (TLF) worked with Insite to create the Cardholder Pride website where Multnomah County Library cardholders can show off their pride in their library. The website, built on the SmugMug platform, shows the smiling faces of over 1,000 library patrons at various branches.

The Arlington, Texas Public Library launched its new website, designed and developed by Insite Web Publishing. Insite created custom designs for the Kids and Teens sections that, while visually distinct, are integrated with the main library website.

The website was developed using the open source content management system, Drupal. It features staff-authored blogs, staff-curated subject guides, calendars, live chat, and is integrated with the Library's social networking efforts.

6-21-10 Oregon Student Assistance Commission selects Insite for website redesign

The Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) has hired Insite to create a unified, easy to use design for the agency's seven websites. Insite will use creative, cohesive branding and visual design, while allowing for flexibility to maintain program identity and include new agency programs in the future that may require their own identity.

OSAC helps Oregon students plan and pay for college. They assist with financial aid through grants and scholarships. OSAC's Office of Degree Quality ensures the integrity of Oregon post-secondary schools and degree programs.

7-19-09 Paul Irving conducts Google Analytics workshop for librarians

Paul Irving, along with Dave Lippert, and Roberta Richards of Portland Community College, conducted a Google Analytics workshop for librarians at the PCC Cascade campus. Attendees learned how libraries can use this free tool to improve their web resources.

The four-hour presentation was aimed at beginning and intermediate users of Google Analytics and was well-received by attendees.

Insite has completed work on the CGCC Website Redesign Phase 1. Insite interviewed stakeholders and gathered requirements. Phase 1 deliverables also included recommendations and a project roadmap for the CGCC website redesign.

6-28-09 Jacob Olsen joins Insite as Technical Director

We are pleased to welcome Jacob Olsen to the Insite team! He comes to us from Platial, an online mapping provider serving over 12 million people per month. At Platial, as co-founder and CTO, he was responsible for all aspects of technology including application development and infrastructure.

Jacob has worked with clients and partners such as Google, Wordpress, Facebook, MySpace, Allstate, City of Portland, Smart Park, City of Seattle, to name a few. He is a technology innovator with over 16 years experience building applications for Internet, desktop, server, and mobile platforms. Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon is a private non-profit organization whose mission is to aid and complement the work of the Oregon Hunger Relief Task Force in strengthening Oregon's families and communities.

Insite has begun work with Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon to design a new logo and website for the organization.

5-14-09 Helping Iowans monitor and protect their environment

Windsor Solutions has developed a web-based, environmental facilities monitoring and reporting application for the State of Iowa. Using data maintained by Iowa DNR, the application enables the public to view maps and detailed information pertaining to environmental activity occurring at a facility.

Windsor Solutions selected Insite to provide information architecture consulting, UI and graphic design, and CSS implementation of the public front-end as well as the administrative back-end of the application.

3-31-09 Columbia Gorge Community College Website Redesign Phase 1

Insite began work with the CGCC website steering committee on the redesign of the college website. Insite will be interviewing stakeholders and gathering requirements, making recommendations and developing a project roadmap for the CGCC website redesign.

2-02-09 ONEplace nonprofit center at Kalamazoo Public Library

Coinciding with the opening of a new regional nonprofit center, KPL launched the ONEplace @ kpl website designed by Insite Web Publishing. ONEplace provides services and resources to nonprofits in the Kalamazoo area.

1-17-09 Kalamazoo Public Library launches Reading Together 2009

Insite client KPL has launched the Reading Together 2009 website designed by Insite Web Publishing. The website has a unique design inspired by the work of author Rick Bragg that is integrated into the overall design of the Library's website, www.kpl.gov.

Insite has completed user testing and redesign for Northwest CENTRAL, the Drupal-driven social networking website for library continuing education in the Pacific Northwest.

10-24-08 Insite will implement Drupal for OVMA

The Oregon Veterinary Medical Association website will be upgraded to use the open-source content management system, Drupal. In addition to CMS implementation, Insite will redesign the home page and information architecture to improve usability.

6-12-08 Kalamazoo Public Library Website launched

Insite designed and implemented the Kalamazoo Public Library website which launched June 12. The new website has many exciting and useful features including blogs, staff profiles and recommendations, topic guides, photo galleries, calendars, and more. There are also sections for kids, tweens, and teens, each of which have a unique design that also works within the overall website layout.

Insite helped evaluate and select a content management system that fit KPL's technical platform. EktronCMS was selected and implemented, with extensive customization by Insite. Several legacy systems were also integrated into the new website.

3-02-08 Windsor Solutions Selects Insite for Pilot Project

Windsor Solutions selected Insite to provide UI and graphic design, information architecture consulting and CSS implementation on a pilot, multi-state, electronic hazardous waste manifest tracking system. Our goal is to create an intuitive interface that is interoperable on a variety of platforms including mobile devices.

1-31-08 Oregon Water/Wastewater Emergency Response Network (ORWARN) chooses Insite

Insite has been selected by the City of Portland Water Bureau to provide website development services for the ORWARN website. ORWARN supports and promotes statewide emergency preparedness, disaster response, and mutual assistance for public and private water and wastewater utilities throughout Oregon.

The NW Central website provides continuing education resources for librarians in the Pacific Northwest. Insite will be working with Portland Community College to improve the website information architecture and usability.

10-29-07 Kalamazoo Public Library launches Reading Together 2008

As our first project for the Kalamazoo Public Library, Insite designed the 2008 web page for Reading Together. Reading Together invites people of all ages from all walks of life to read and then discuss important issues raised by a single book. The 2008 book selection is Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver.

8-14-07 National Indian Child Welfare Association website launched

The newly redesigned website for the National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) was launched this week. NICWA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the well-being of all American Indian children and families by addressing the issues of child abuse and neglect through training, research, public policy, and grassroots community development. The website was redesigned to more effectively focus their online efforts to increase membership, raise funds, and provide training, outreach and advocacy. Insite will continue to provide development and maintenance services for NICWA.

3-29-07 Sharks, rays, rum and sun!

I just returned from a three-week trip in Mexico and Belize. There I explored ancient Mayan ruins, swam with sharks and stingrays, watched a bullfight, and learned that high-school Spanish, while sufficient to get by, often leads to amusing misunderstandings. For two weeks I kept asking people if I could rent a ship! I also learned that stingrays have a bad reputation, they are really quite docile and friendly.

2-08-07 Insite to present at Oregon University System's annual Online Northwest Conference, February 16, 2007

Paul Irving will be a co-presenter with Donna Reed, Web Services Coordinator for the Multnomah County Library, at this year's Online Northwest Conference in Corvallis, OR. Online Northwest was created by the Oregon University System Library Council to help librarians around Oregon learn about the use of technology within libraries.

Mr. Irving and Ms. Reed's presentation is entitled "Consider Your Users: How Helpful is Your Interface?" The presentation covers usability/accessibility issues, Web standards, design basics, writing for the Web and graceful integration with a larger organization. They will also discuss the challenges of working within an institutional framework or content management system.

Multnomah County Library selected Insite to redesign their website. Insite was selected because of our experience developing websites using standards-based XHTML and CSS as well as our expertise with large-scale website information architecture. Ultimately, the Library was impressed with our vision for the visual design of the site. Inspired by the people who use and love the library, the site features beautiful and evocative photography of library patrons, staff and the libraries themselves. The resulting visual design is a balance of compelling imagery that tells the story of the library and compliments the excellent resources of the website itself.
